Industry Insights
In 2021, FIGS went public and effectively defined the modern premium scrubs category. By 2024 the brand was facing the same problem that catches most fast-growing apparel companies: the build quality and the customer service have stopped matching the price tag. We started LumiScrubs because we work with one of the same supplier categories the big brands use, and we think the gap between price and what you actually get on a 12-hour shift has gotten too wide. This is the honest comparison — including where FIGS still wins.
The numbers FIGS publishes
FY2025 (their fiscal year ending December 2025) put FIGS at $631.1M in net revenue, 2.92 million active customers, and an average order value of $120. Those are real, healthy numbers. The brand has 820,000+ Instagram followers and a category-leading ambassador network. None of that is going to disappear next quarter.
The numbers FIGS does not lead with
The Better Business Bureau profile shows 110+ complaints over the past three years across three categories that are nearly even: Delivery Issues (35), Service or Repair Issues (34), Product Issues (33). The Trustpilot AI summary for FIGS flags consistent themes: order modification difficulty (a 2-hour window even for size errors), inconsistent sizing across batches, slow international shipping and returns, and fabric quality "reduced compared to earlier purchases."
"After just three uses it has worn out in between the thigh area. For almost $90 that I spent did not expect this to happen after only three wears." — FIGS Trustpilot review, 2024-2025
Where LumiScrubs is structurally different
Three points worth taking seriously:
- Same supplier, different markup. Our factory partner (publicly identified on our factory transparency page) is a multi-decade manufacturer in the same build family as several established global scrub brands. The build inputs come from the same family of suppliers FIGS uses. Our price for a set lands $20-$40 lower because we work directly — not through a brand-equity layer.
- Service tempo we will commit to in writing. One business hour reply during Mon-Fri 9am-6pm ET. 48-hour refund after we receive a return. 365-day construction guarantee with the failure modes listed in plain English on the size guarantee page.
- Sizing direction. We are not playing the "limited edition is XS-XL only" game. Our roadmap commits 4XL-6X coverage on the best-sellers and a dedicated Curvy block by late 2026. The factory has the pattern capacity. We are using it.
Where FIGS is still ahead, said honestly
We are not going to pretend.
- FIGS has a brand presence on hospital floors that we will not match in 2026. If walking into a unit with a recognizable brand matters to you, FIGS still owns that.
- FIGS ships from US warehouses in 2-3 business days. We currently ship via our factory partner’s SF Express International route — 1-2 days processing plus 6-12 day transit, total 10-18 business days to US addresses. We will move toward US fulfillment as volume justifies it.
- FIGS has a wider catalog including more limited drops, more pant cuts, and more category extensions.
The one-sentence summary
If you want the brand on the floor and you do not mind a $90 set that may need replacing in year two, FIGS will keep working for you. If you want the same family of build inputs at $70-$95 a set with a written 365-day guarantee and a real service inbox, take a look at our catalog. The decision is honest in both directions.
